Sr. HR Consultant
Are you an experienced HR professional who has a strategic mindset, enjoys a variety of work and loves to solve organizational HR issues? If so, we want to talk to you. We are actively seeking to build our bench with a fractional Senior Level HR Professional.
Who We Are:
At Austin People Works we understand and embrace the gig economy. Our belief is that the future of work for many will involve working multiple jobs. Not just because many individuals need or even want to supplement their current incomes but also because working in various types of roles and industries provides variety and a chance to learn something new, meet new people, and make a meaningful difference by bringing experience and wisdom to a new role and company.
We are an Interim & Project HR company. The businesses we support need our help to get the day-to-day HR activities done. There's an increasing demand for the services we provide, which is why our team of HR pros continues to grow in size and as a collective brain trust.
Who You Are & What We Need:
You are an experienced Senior level HR professional who has a track record of exceling and even surpassing expectations. You enjoy working as a team member vs. in a silo doing your own thing and you understand how documentation is critical to a professional services operation. You embrace change and know that it’s more important to be effective than right and that we live in a world of constant change that requires diligence in staying current and tech savvy. You’re open to working at a fast or slow pace and you know how to manage your time to maximize when you’re at your best while also being a contributing team member.
We’re looking for experienced HR professionals with a flexible and humble work style who are interested in and comfortable with performing tactical and strategic HR tasks. It’s where our clients have the most needs – we’re being asked to keep the wheels on the bus and improve HR processes, and even departments, in the process.
Although we have a few needs from time to time for those wanting to work evenings or weekends, most of our project needs require being available during usual business hours to support our clients and meet their business needs. This means, you’d need to be readily available to tackle an issue, a call or other as needed. This position is fractional work, meaning hours will vary week to week and there may be weeks or more where there is no work at all to send your way and you’re ok with this. In addition, this is a remote opportunity.
What You'll Be Doing:
See the list below for some of the project work you may be asked to do. Keep in mind that we’re not expecting you to want to do all of these activities. Rather, we're interested in you providing fractional support for activities for which you have experience and an interest in doing.
- Collaborate with our client's leadership teams to develop and implement HR strategies that align with organizational goals and in alignment with APW’s support role for our clients. Everything we do is in a team environment, and you won’t be making critical decisions in a vacuum
- Provide senior-level expertise and advisory services to clients while providing essential support to the APW team when needed. You enjoy sound boarding, researching, and ensuring all guidance is based on a solid documentable guidance
- Provide expert consultation on compliance and regulations, navigate intricate employee relations matters, and offer comprehensive support to management
- Navigate and oversee challenging leaves, reasonable accommodations, and expertly craft or refine documentation as required
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date personnel files, records, and other documentation in accordance with federal, state, and company retention policies. You’d be responsible for documentation and source documents for all activities
- Implementing and managing data in Human Resources Information System (HRIS) databases
- Onboarding new employees to HR policies, company benefits, etc.
- Creating and documenting human resources processes for client needs
- Drafting and reviewing handbook policies to ensure they are in line with federal, state, and local laws and providing citable documentation
- Providing guidance and support on performance review processes
- Completing ad-hoc HR projects, reports, and initiatives
Qualifications:
- 8+ years of progressive HR experience, with a focus on strategic HR consulting (SHRM or HRCI certification a plus)
- Demonstrated proficiency in problem-solving, mediating disputes, conducting thorough investigations, and navigating complex termination processes
- Working knowledge of and experience with navigating within a variety of HRIS systems and modules
- Knowledge of working with global clients a plus
- Strong knowledge of multi-state employment laws, regulations, and industry best practices
- Smart, resourceful problem solver who knows where to research federal, state and local answers
- Savvy HR professional who works well as a team player and works well with clients from a support or strategic role (you don’t assume you have all the answers)
- Excellent interpersonal skills, can be calming and reassuring to the client and convey credibility
- Maintains confidentiality with sensitive information and situations
